What is HULE?
A comprehensive, objective evaluation of an individual’s hand and upper limb function as well as the status of the physical injury/condition from a bio-psychosocial and vocational perspective, in order to determine rehabilitation potential and to inform a vocationally orientated functional restoration programme, which can be either sessional or residential.
Who is it for?
Ideal for individuals who have sustained a hand or upper limb injury or exacerbated a pre-existing condition, and demonstrate functional and vocational impairment.
How the service is offered
1. Evaluation, Advice & Rehabilitation: A face-to-face objective evaluation of the hand and upper limb carried out by a Specialist Occupational Therapist (OT). The provision of a concise report that details the individual’s upper limb function and any physical and/or psychosocial factors that may be impacting on function. The report will identify: rehabilitation potential and recommendations, in terms of specific goals, interventions and a plan aimed at the restoration of hand and upper limb function through a sessional or residential programme
2. Residential Vocational Functional Restoration Programme: An intensive, residential, programme provided by a multi-disciplinary team of hand and upper limb rehabilitation specialists including OT, Pain Nurse Specialist, Psychologist, Rehabilitation Counsellor. The programme is initiated with a comprehensive, objective assessment of function, physical condition and pain management. The residential programme which is vocationally based, focuses on improving: hand and upper limb function, goal setting and realisation, pain management and self efficacy.
Location and geographical area
The evaluation services are provided in the United Kingdom and Ireland by a team of specialist Occupational Therapists with the evaluation conducted at a suitable venue, local and accessible for the individual. The residential programme is provided in our Vocational Rehabilitation unit in Glasgow.
